Anybody who is planning an extended stay in Spain or want`s to emigrate, sooner or later need`s to get the N.I.E. (Foreigners Identification Number). Every citizen of the EU has a right to get the N.I.E, guaranteed by the art. 20 of the Treaty on European Union.

You may apply for N.I.E in the local police station (Comisaría) or in the foreign office (Oficina de Extranjeros). It is usual that you get the N.I.E in the same act the same day of request.

In addition to the form you may need a proof of residence in Spain like a hire contract etc, 3 ID-pictures and a valid ID or passport.
